The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Xanana Gusmão, begins an official visit to Portugal today with the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Program for the period 2024-2028 and two other agreements related to the rehabilitation of heritage and infrastructure.
The new Strategic Cooperation Program for the period 2024-2028 has a value of 75 million euros and will have five priority areas, namely Human Development, Rule of Law and Good Governance, Public Administration, Public Finance and Economy, Youth and Employment and Ocean Sustainability. and Infrastructure.
The last PEC between the two States, which was in force in the period 2019-2023, had a 102% execution and had a financial coverage of R$70 million for interventions in the sectors Consolidation of the Rule of Law and Good Governance, Education, Training and Culture and Comprehensive Socio-Economic Development.
Xanana Gusmão participates today, on the first day of the visit, in the Lusofonia awards ceremony, which will be held at the Estoril Casino, where he will receive the career award, according to the visit program sent to Lusa.
On Sunday, the executive leader of Timor-Leste will go to the headquarters of UCCLA, in Lisbon, where he will also have a meeting with the Timorese community, followed by a meeting with the president of the Portuguese parliament, José Pedro Aguiar. -Branco.
Meetings with the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the prime minister, Luís Montenegro, are scheduled for Monday, when an official dinner will also be held, hosted by the Portuguese head of government.
On Tuesday, Xanana Gusmão travels to the island of Faial, in the Azores archipelago, where he will have several meetings, including with the president of the Regional Legislative Assembly, Luís Garcia.
In Faial, where he will stay until Wednesday, the Timorese prime minister will also visit the School of the Sea of the Azores, the building of marine activities and tourism, the Research Institute of Marine Sciences and the Observatory of the Sea of the Azores.
On Thursday evening, in Lisbon, Xanana Gusmão takes part in a solemn session at the headquarters of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries and launches two books, one of speeches entitled “Dalan ba Dame” and one of poems entitled “Mauberíadas”.
The former head of Portuguese diplomacy Luís Amado will present the books.
Xanana Gusmão, on her official visit to Portugal, will lead a delegation including the deputy prime minister, the coordinating minister of Economic Affairs and the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Bendito Freitas, and ministers as well.
