After Barcelona’s home defeat to Villarreal (3-5), Xavi Hernández announced that he will leave the Catalan club at the end of this season. “I want to announce that on June 30th I will not continue as coach of Barcelona”, he began by saying. “I had already decided a few days ago but now is the time [de dizê-lo]. The club needs a new dynamic. As a culé, I think about the club, the players… the footballers will be calmer. Thinking as a culé and a man of this club, I leave on June 30th,” he added. “I feel like I’m primarily responsible. A good job was done but my project as a coach has to end on June 30th. This will free the players. I feel good and somehow this also frees me”, said Xavi, who currently sees Barcelona in third place in the Spanish League, 10 points behind provisional leader Real Madrid.
