3 people were killed and 9 others were injured in clashes between the joint Yemeni forces of the Yemeni government and the “Ansar Allah” movement in the Shabwa Governorate, southern Yemen.

A Yemeni military source told the RIA Novosti agency, “Confrontations took place with various weapons between the 2nd Brigade of the “Sheba Axis” forces of the joint forces, and fighters from “Ansar Allah” following an attack launched by the group on 3 military sites in the Lajiya Mountains in the Upper Markha District, west of the city. Emancipating the center of Shabwa Governorate, from the neighboring Al-Bayda Governorate, in conjunction with the visit of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to “Sanaa.”

He added, “The joint forces were able to repel the attack on the mountain range overlooking the Upper Markha District, after confrontations that lasted about two hours, resulting in 3 deaths and 9 wounded on both sides.”

The source stated, “The joint forces have strengthened their positions in Shabwa Governorate, especially the areas adjacent to the neighboring Al-Bayda Governorate, whose northern areas are being used by Ansar Allah as a launching pad for their attacks.”

The field escalation between the two sides coincides with the anniversary of the government forces’ announcement, on January 7, 2022, of regaining control over the Beihan, Usaylan, and Ain districts, west of Shabwa, following battles with the “Ansar Allah” group, after the latter was able to control it on September 21, 2021, during a massive attack. On the oil-rich province, according to RIA Novosti.
