The young man, who had come to dine at a restaurant set up facing the sea, lovingly called the kittens there and invited them closer. He first showed the cat the food and then threw it into the sea. He called the accompanying cat to the shore and tried to push it into the sea, but could not. The video also shows his friends laughing out loud when they see the cat being dumped in the water.
The incident garnered international attention after the cat’s harassment scene went viral on social media. There was strong criticism against it. There was also a demand for stern legal action against him. He was arrested by the police after the incident came to his notice. The police explained that under the amended law of 2020, the offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a hefty fine. Greek minister Takis Theodorkos has said animal cruelty is unforgivable.
