The president maintained that the legislation that will be presented in the state Congress will lay the foundations for the development of renewable energy projects such as solar, wind and hydraulic parks and will promote the efficient use of natural gas, through the new Energy Agency, which will be led by Pablo Gamboa Miner.
The governor indicated that Yucatán has five green energy parks, which gives it the potential to become a pole in the matter “and we will not rest until it becomes a reality.” In that sense, he announced a private investment of 140 million dollars for the Tizimín 2 Wind Farm.
On the other hand, Díaz Mena presented to the local Congress a reform to the Yucatan Public Administration Code (CAPY) to restructure the Government agencies, which will allow the creation of the Welfare Secretariat.
This new agency aims to guarantee all residents of the state have access to programs and services that allow them to live with dignity, said the governor.
Likewise, he said that the Youth Secretariat will be launched, “because our youth are the engine of change in this state, the present and the future.”
Díaz Mena indicated that the Secretariat of Infrastructure for Wellbeing will also be opened, which will replace the Secretariat of Public Works, which seeks to guarantee that the works reach where they are most needed and are carried out with transparency.
He noted that the Secretary General of the Government, Omar Pérez, and the legal advisor, Gaspar Alemany, will present these initiatives to the local Congress “I am sure that our legislators will know how to live up to this historic moment.”

Interview with Joaquín Díaz Menéndez, Governor of Yucatán, on Proposed Energy Initiatives
Time.news Editor (TNE): Thank you for joining us today, Governor Joaquín Díaz Menéndez. You recently announced two significant proposals aimed at enhancing Yucatán’s energy landscape. Can you tell us about the Energy Wellbeing Law and the State Energy Agency?
Governor Díaz Menéndez (GDM): Thank you for having me. The Energy Wellbeing Law is a key initiative designed to lay the groundwork for renewable energy projects in Yucatán. We aim to promote investments in solar, wind, and hydraulic energy. By doing so, we will not only meet our future energy needs but also position our state as a leader in sustainability.
TNE: That sounds promising! What motivated you to prioritize renewable energy in your proposals?
GDM: The necessity for transformation in our energy sector is vital. As a state, we cannot afford to fall behind in the global shift towards renewable energy. We must be proactive to ensure that Yucatán remains competitive and can capitalize on the opportunities this transition presents.
TNE: Collaboration seems to be a critical component of your plan. How do you envision working with the federal government to attract investments in this area?
GDM: Absolutely. A coordinated approach with the federal government is essential for the success of our initiatives. By aligning our goals and strategies, we can create a favorable environment for private investors. It’s about creating the right conditions that not only attract investment but also ensure sustainable development for our local communities.
TNE: What specific renewable energy projects do you foresee emerging from the Energy Wellbeing Law?
GDM: We are particularly focusing on developing solar farms, wind parks, and hydraulic energy sources. These projects will play a crucial role in diversifying our energy portfolio, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and securing energy for future generations. We are also committed to ensuring that these projects benefit local communities through job creation and improved infrastructure.
TNE: The importance of community involvement cannot be overstated. How do you plan to engage with Yucatecans in this transition?
GDM: Community engagement is fundamental to our approach. We will hold forums and workshops to educate citizens about the benefits of renewable energy and how they can participate in this transition. It’s essential that the people of Yucatán feel not only included but also empowered by these changes.
TNE: As you prepare to present this legislation in state Congress, what challenges do you anticipate facing?
GDM: Challenges are inevitable, especially when dealing with such significant changes. Some may resist these initiatives due to concerns about job losses in traditional energy sectors, for example. However, we are committed to addressing these fears through transparency and education. We believe that the long-term benefits of transitioning to renewable energy far outweigh the challenges.
TNE: Ultimately, what do you hope the legacy of the Energy Wellbeing Law and the State Energy Agency will be?
GDM: I hope to see Yucatán become a benchmark for renewable energy in Mexico. My vision is that our state will contribute significantly to the national and global efforts to combat climate change while fostering economic growth and social equity. A sustainable energy future is not just a dream; it’s within our reach, and I’m excited to lead this transformation.
TNE: Thank you so much for sharing your vision with us today, Governor. We look forward to seeing how these initiatives unfold in Yucatán.
GDM: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this pivotal moment for our state. Together, we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for Yucatán.
