Launch Pricing and Pre-order Discounts for Physical and Digital Editions
Nintendo has set the U.S. price tags at $59.99 for the digital version and $69.99 for the physical package on the Nintendo Switch 2. Ahead of the November 5 release, shoppers have a narrow window to secure physical editions with a $10 discount at Amazon and Walmart. Retailers are also scheduling midnight store openings, with Best Buy planning inventory events where customers can purchase copies regardless of prior pre-orders while supplies last.
Pre-orders for the Zelda-themed Switch 2 sold out almost immediately after being announced. The Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro Controller went on sale on October 29th, with units selling online for roughly $30 to $50 above the official $99 MSRP. Nintendo is also offering a Zelda-themed Switch 2 carrying case.
Remastered Gameplay Mechanics and the Nintendo Switch 2 Feature Set
Nearly 30 years after the original Nintendo 64 release in 1998, the remake introduces modern movement controls and a fully rebuilt Hyrule. Developer teams included younger staff members who had never played the original game, a Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma credited with bringing fresh perspective to how the controls and pacing should feel.
Players can now jump and dash freely with dedicated button controls, utilize gyro aiming for ranged weapons, and explore cutscenes featuring fully voiced dialogue and an orchestral score. Another addition lets players hum ocarina melodies directly into the Switch 2 built-in microphone instead of relying purely on button prompts. Players can hum into the built-in microphone to play music in the game, which also supports actual musical instruments like a playable ocarina and an electronic version from HORI.
Nintendo Faces Competition from Rockstar and Stellar Blade
To assist players navigating the adventure, the remake introduces Threads of Time. The calendar around the launch date is crowded: Ocarina of Time debuts on November 5 alongside Stellar Blade Complete Edition and Guardians of the Galaxy Encore Edition, giving Nintendo a two-week head start before Rockstar launches Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19. Stellar Blade Complete Edition goes live at 2am AEDT on Friday, November 6 in the region, featuring five glam-rock outfits, mouse and gyro controls, and target performance of 1440p 30fps or 1080p 40fps docked and 30fps handheld, packaged on a Game-Key Card.
