To ‘President-elect’ Trump, “Decisive ‘President’”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the 7th (local time). the first meeting since the U.S. presidential election took place on the occasion of the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris,the capital of France.
At a three-party meeting with President-elect Trump and French president Emmanuel Macron, President Zelensky said, “The most meaningful thing is peace and strong security guarantees for Ukraine.”
“we all want peace,” he said. “But our position is that peace is fair for all of us and there is no possibility of Russia, Russian President vladimir Putin or any other aggressor coming back. “This is critically important,” he added.
After the meeting, President Zelenskyy posted on social media, “I had an excellent and productive three-way meeting with President trump (elect) and President Macron at the Elysee Palace. President-elect Trump is decisive as always. “Thank you,” he wrote.
He said, “I would also like to thank President Macron for organizing this critically important meeting. “We all want this war to end in a just manner as quickly as possible,” he said. “We talked about our people, the war situation, and a just peace. We decided to continue working together and keep in touch. “Peace through strength is absolutely possible,” he emphasized.
What is noteworthy is that President-elect Trump,who has 45 days left until his inauguration,was referred to as ‘president.’
According to AFP, prior to the meeting, President-elect Trump said, “I think the world is heading towards a slightly absurd situation right now. “We will share that story,” he said.
President Macron said, “You were president at the time of the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in April 2019, and I remember (your) solidarity and immediate response,” adding, “It is a great honor for the French people to welcome you.”
“As everyone knows, we maintained a good relationship. “We have achieved a lot,” he added.
President Zelenskyy arrived about 45 minutes late and joined the meeting.The three leaders talked for about 30 minutes.
