Polish Man Faces Court After Blocking Emergency Line with Repeated Calls About Zbigniew Ziobro

A 33-year-old resident of Łódź Voivodeship, Poland, will face legal action after repeatedly tying up the country’s emergency line, 112, with persistent calls regarding the search for former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro. The incident highlights the potential for misuse of emergency services and the serious consequences that can follow.

The situation unfolded as Polish authorities continue to seek Ziobro, who has been granted international asylum in Hungary since December. The Warsaw Police Headquarters has publicly released Ziobro’s image and contact information, requesting assistance from the public in locating him. A dedicated telephone number was established for information related to Ziobro, operating weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with all other inquiries directed to the 112 emergency number.

According to police reports, the 33-year-old man exploited this arrangement, repeatedly calling 112 and refusing to terminate the conversation despite requests from operators. “The 33-year-old reported the need to take action against Zbigniew Ziobro, but after submitting his request he did not want to hang up despite the instruction from the operator of line 112,” a police spokesperson stated.

Operators repeatedly informed the caller that 112 is reserved for life- or health-threatening emergencies. Despite these explanations, the man continued the calls, effectively blocking the emergency line and potentially endangering others. “Long-term or repeated blocking of the line may hinder or delay receiving reports from people who actually need urgent help,” officers emphasized.

Due to the paralysis of the emergency number, police were dispatched to the man’s residence. When confronted, he reportedly stated he would continue his actions, prompting officers to issue a fine. The man refused to accept the ticket, leading to the escalation of the case to court.

The National Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a warrant has been issued for Ziobro’s arrest to facilitate further legal proceedings, though these have been hampered by his current location. “The prosecutor issued a decision to search for the suspect with an arrest warrant in order to carry out procedural activities with his participation, which have not yet been carried out due to the failure to establish the suspect’s whereabouts,” a senior official stated. The prosecutor’s office is also considering the possibility of requesting a European Arrest Warrant.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of utilizing emergency services responsibly and underscores the potential ramifications of misusing vital resources.
