The Viking captain delivered 10 goals and 15 assists during the 2024 season, making him a significant contributor to their third-place finish.
The “Player of the Season” awards were presented by TV 2 in collaboration with Norsk Toppfotball and Toppfotball Kvinner.

editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re focusing on the recent accolades in Norwegian football, notably the Eliteserien and Toppserien awards. I’m thrilled to have with us Dr. Lars Haugland, a renowned football analyst and expert in Scandinavian sports. Thanks for joining us, lars!
Dr. Haugland: Thank you for having me! It’s always exciting to discuss the evolving landscape of Norwegian football.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. Zlatko Tripic from Viking was named Player of the Year in Eliteserien. He achieved a remarkable season with 10 goals and 15 assists. What stands out to you about his performance?
Dr. Haugland: Tripic’s season was exceptional, not just in numbers but in the influence he had on the team. His ability to create chances and contribute directly to the scoreboard was pivotal for Viking’s triumphant campaign, finishing third. He didn’t do this alone, though—his synergy with teammates played a notable role.
Editor: Indeed! He mentioned in an interview that he owes his success to the support from his club and teammates. this speaks to the importance of teamwork in delivering individual accolades.
Dr. Haugland: absolutely, football is inherently a team sport. Individual brilliance often shines through collective efforts. Tripic’s humility in recognizing his teammates is a hallmark of a true leader, especially as he captained the side.
Editor: On the youth front, Sverre Nypan was named Young Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. What do you think makes him a standout player?
Dr. Haugland: Nypan’s consistency and maturity at such a young age is extremely notable. His performances for Rosenborg showcased not only technical skill but also a tactical awareness that many players don’t display until they’re much older. This combination of talent and mentality is what has earned him recognition two years in a row.
Editor: Shifting gears to the women’s side, Vålerenga Women had a clean sweep at the Toppserien awards. What do you think this says about their dominance in norwegian women’s football?
Dr. Haugland: It’s a clear signal that Vålerenga is building something special. With Olaug Tvedten winning Player of the year, Nils Lexerød as Coach of the Year, and Stine Brekken recognized as the Breakthrough of the Year, it shows a depth of talent across all levels of their squad. Their success reflects both strong recruitment and effective growth programs within the club.
Editor: Many fans are excited to see how this will impact the competitive landscape in Norway. Do you anticipate any particular challenges for these clubs as they strive to maintain their momentum?
Dr. Haugland: Definitely. Sustaining high performance, especially after achieving such accolades, can be challenging. There’s the pressure of expectations, and clubs need to continually evolve tactically and in player management. Other teams will also be motivated to close the gap after seeing Vålerenga’s success, making next season even more competitive.
Editor: As a final thought, what key trends do you see emerging in Norwegian football based on these awards?
Dr.Haugland: One major trend is the increasing emphasis on youth development. With players like nypan rising to prominence, clubs are likely to invest even more in scouting and nurturing young talent. Additionally, there’s a growing focus on gender equality in sports—Vålerenga’s success is a testament to that, showcasing the importance of investing in women’s football.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Haugland, for your insights. It’s clear that the future of Norwegian football is bright, and we look forward to witnessing the developments in both the Eliteserien and Toppserien.
