At least⁤ 10 ⁣newborns were killed when a massive fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit of a hospital in​ the ⁢Indian state of‍ Uttar Pradesh, late on Friday.

The hospital’s director, Avinash Kumar, said ‍the fire started due to an electrical short in the neonatal intensive care unit, noting that “there were 54 children in the ward, sixteen of ​them were⁤ injured, and another 28 were safe.”

As a⁤ result of the‍ fire that⁢ broke ⁢out in the ward between 10.30 pm ⁣and 10.45 pm (Indian time) ⁢a stampede situation was put in the hospital‌ to control the⁢ fire, and officials confirmed that‌ the ‍fire was extinguished at about 12.30. time.
