Just after the breast cancer awareness month ended, and the month of the fight against violence against women begins, Ashdod municipality employees had the opportunity to participate in a lecture on the subject. About 200 women arrived this morning at the “Monart Center” wearing pink/white shirts, for a morning dedicated entirely to breast cancer awareness.

Dr. Rita Moses, a family physician at Maccabi, lectured for the women and talked about the importance of early and life-saving detection, and shared with the women important statistical data regarding the disease and the chances of cure, symptoms, prevention and treatment options, and dispelling myths about the disease.

An important figure that amazed them all was that in Israel every year about 5,500 new cases are discovered, and about the chances of survival – which stand at about 90% due to the importance of early detection. And what are the symptoms of the disease that constitute a “warning sign”? Discovery of a lump in the breast or armpit by self-palpation, an anatomical change in the shape of the breast, the changing color and texture of the skin, red skin will be a warning sign – of inflammation, and persistent pain in the area, which does not go away.

At the end of the lecture, Ms. Yana Darom – host of Instagram and Facebook, and among other things in her group “Fashion and Inspiration”, came up and lifted the spirits of the women of the municipality with an exciting and cheerful lecture, while presenting her fascinating life story about how, at the age of 28, while she was pregnant, she learned that she Breast cancer patient. Yana told about the pregnancy process, the birth, and immediately after the treatment for the disease that led to a mastectomy. The main part of the lecture was optimistic and empowering about the ways of dealing with crises and how joy and optimism are required for the healing process.

Mrs. Amram came up at the end of the lecture and chose to authorize and celebrate the day of the study with the month of November, known as the month of the fight against violence against women and the importance of both issues together. “From here I am calling all the women in the city. If you want a rosy future and a rosy and healthy life – please, I want to be tested.”

The seminar was initiated by Ms. Ahuva Amram, RA consultant for the advancement of the status of women in cooperation with the Maccabi Community Center, which was represented by Ms. Anat Ezra, the deputy manager of the area, who explained to the women the layout of the Maccabi institutes in the district and the importance of screening tests for early detection. In addition, the RA’s wife, Mrs. Irit Alexenberg-Lasri, and the head of the Human Resources Department, Mrs. Mirav Sharet, were present.
