A rare pair of Persian leopards spotted and photographed in Pakistan

Time.news – A couple of rare Persian leopards, spotted for the first time last year in Pakistan, were filmed and photographed in the wild. As reported by Sharifuddin Baloch, responsible for the protection of animal species in the province of Balochistan, the two leopards were first spotted by rangers six months ago in Hazarganji park.

“We have equipped our staff with cameras and binoculars to film the couple and photograph them,” said Baloch, adding that the feat was successful this month. Persian leopards are a sub-species of the panther originating in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and the Caucasus.

They are extremely rare and are classified as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature; just under a thousand live in the wilderness, while another 200 are in captivity. Baloch pointed out that this species had never been seen in Pakistan so far.
