A resident of Pyatigorsk, together with two friends, went to the highest mountain of the Caucasian Mineral Waters – Beshtau (1400 meters). However, they could not descend on their own and turned to emergency services for help. The rescue operation lasted until 4 am on 19 February. In the middle of the descent, one of the tourists died. Another one ended up in the Zheleznovodsk city hospital with frostbite on her legs, the press service of the Zheleznovodsk administration told RG.
The department said that the women faced difficulties due to weather conditions on the mountain. Now Beshtau is dirty, in some places there is snow, in some places – frost. In addition, the descent from the mountain was delayed, and by evening it became even more difficult to distinguish the path.
Tourists in distress called for help around 6 pm. They managed to find them closer to 9 o’clock, and then a seven-hour descent operation began.
The city administration reminds that this is not the first time in recent times when rescuers have to remove tourists from local peaks. So on New Year’s Eve, help was needed for people stuck on Mount Razvalka.
