A federal court in Florida considered the timetable for the trial of former US President Donald Trump on charges of mishandling classified documents, which is scheduled to begin on May 20, but is likely to be postponed for several months.
Trump, the most likely candidate to win the Republican Party’s nomination to run in the November presidential elections and who is accused of four separate criminal cases, is seeking to delay his trial as much as possible until after the elections at the very least.
In the state of Georgia, Trump and several of his defendants, who are being pursued on charges of illegal attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections, are calling for the hand of the prosecutor to be restrained. A final hearing was held before Judge Scott McAfee, and after listening to both parties, the judge indicated his intention to issue a decision within two weeks. The next two.
If the judge concludes that there is a conflict of interest that justifies stopping the hand of Prosecutor Fanny Willis due to her close relationship with the investigator she appointed in this case, this would lead to the postponement of this trial, for which no date has been set.
