Aboul Gheit and Al-Sarraj discuss ways to resolve the Libyan crisis under the auspices of the United Nations

nbsp; Cairo – INA The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, met today, Monday, with the President of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, as part of his current visit to Cairo. The correspondent, quoting Minister Plenipotentiary Mahmoud Afifi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, said: “The meeting witnessed a review of the overall efforts made to resolve the Libyan crisis and complete the political process sponsored by the United Nations in accordance with the terms of reference of the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat. Afifi explained in this regard that: “Aboul Gheit renewed the League’s support for the efforts undertaken by the UN envoy, Ghassan Salame, in the context of the action plan that he presented last month in order to complete the political process, by amending the controversial points in the Skhirat Agreement, and organizing and holding an inclusive national forum that includes various parties and powers.” Libya and preparing the necessary political and legislative ground for a referendum on the new draft constitution and holding the presidential and legislative elections proposed to be held during the year 2018. Aboul Gheit assured Sarraj that the League will remain committed to standing by Libya and continuing its efforts in support of the Libyan brothers and bringing the views among them closer to completing the expected political, legislative and constitutional entitlements and unifying institutions.
