Actress Estrela Novais died in the early hours of Friday, aged 70. The actress’ death was announced on social media by Companhia Teatro Seiva Trupe, of which she was a founder. The artist would have celebrated her 71st birthday on the 13th and the cause of death is still unknown.
No Instagram, Ricardo Castro, actor and friend of Estrela Novais, mourned the death of his colleague. “My love, my Estrela Novais, I was rehearsing to write you a letter to receive on your birthday, March 13th. I owe you so much. Thanks. See you soon,” he wrote.
Estrela Novais was a beloved figure in national fiction. She participated in soap operas such as “Doce Fugitiva”, “Belmonte”, both on TVI, and “Dancin’Days” (SIC).
Born in Porto, the actress founded Companhia Teatro Seiva Trupe, on September 11, 1973, together with Júlio Cardoso and António Reis, who passed away in 2022. At the time, it was the only professional theater company with continuous activity in the city of Porto, in addition to the Teatro Experimental do Porto (TEP), of which Estrela Novais was also part. In January 2023, Seiva Trupe collected more than 5,100 signatures on a petition online to “not let the Seiva Troupe die, which has faced several problems over the years.
