He was arrested and jailed last Monday after a case was registered against 40 AIADMK leaders, including Jayakumar. Meanwhile, Jayakumar’s bail petition came up for hearing in the George Town Criminal Arbitration Court in Chennai. Jayakumar’s party argued that interim bail should be granted as the case was registered with political motives. According to the police, the attempted murder unit and the information technology unit have been added due to the use of words that incite violence.

Despite protests from former minister Jayakumar, arguments were put forward as to how the case was registered when no crime was reported by the police. After hearing all the arguments, the judge dismissed the bail petition saying that the attempted murder case had been registered and would be heard by the Chennai Sessions Court.
