What happened with Israel‘s attack on Iran is just the latest phase of the back and forth between Tehran and the Jewish State since October 7th. A proxy war was started through Iranian proxies, starting with Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis alongside Hamas, and then continuing with direct attacks as they escalated. Until last night an Israeli attack on Tehran, which targeted several military bases, but did not hit nuclear installations. Only the latest one.
Here is the chronology of the main events.
APRIL 1 – ISRAEL ATTACKS THE IRANIAN CONSULATE IN DAMASCUS. The Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, has been hit in an Israeli raid. The dead, according to the Iranian authorities, are sixteen years old. They also include several members of the Pasdaran, including General Mohammad Reza Zahed, commander of the Quds forces, and his deputy. Tehran vows revenge.
APRIL 13 – IRAN ATTACKS ISRAEL DIRECTLY IN REPLY TO DAMASCUS EVENTS. During the night, for the first time, Iran launched a direct attack against the State of Israel, in response to the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and more than 300 drones are used. Israel’s iron dome defense system, aided by allied countries and also Jordan, thwarts the threat. No citizens were injured and no serious damage was reported on Israeli territory.
APRIL 19 – ISRAEL LAUNCHED COOPERATION AGAINST IRAN. Israel countered Iran by attacking a military air base near the city of Isfahan, about 400 kilometers from Tehran. Iran ignores the incident by calling it a ‘failed attack’. Israeli far-right leader Itamar Ben-Gvir speaks of a ‘weak’ attack, prompting reactions from the opposition.
