Estonian director Rene Kirsipuu was attacked from all sides for this

On the Cote d’Azur, where the Cannes Film Festival is held annually in May, an Estonian producer came up with an unexpected initiative. He organized the festival “The Cranes Are Flying”, using the title of the only Soviet (Russian) film by Mikhail Kalatozov, awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1958.

In recent years, Russian films have practically not participated in the world’s main film festival. Exceptions are rare. One of them was this year: in one of the programs they showed “Whim” by Russian director Ilya Povolotsky.

But producer Rene Kirsipuu, who moved from Tallinn to France, relies not on cinema, but on theater and literature, as well as on our common past. He will bring Soviet and Russian stars to the Cote d’Azur. People have already attacked him from all sides for this.

One of the events is dedicated to Margarita Terekhova. Her daughter Anna Terekhova will take part in it, and she will present a photo album dedicated to her mother, an outstanding Russian actress. Because of her illness, she herself will never be able to come to any festival. And in 1974 I could have visited Cannes.

The film “Mirror” by Andrei Tarkovsky, in which Terekhova starred, was not released at the Cannes Film Festival, despite promises from officials. The photo album dedicated to the actress included her photos from the family archive, photographs taken by various photographers at the most unusual moments of her life and at a variety of events.

The European public will also meet Alla Pugacheva, again in absentia. In the play Iceberg she will appear in the imagination of her Soviet fan, who has ceased to distinguish between where she is and where her favorite singer is. This sufferer ends up in a mental hospital, where they try to save her from Pugacheva’s mania. The play will be performed in the theater named after Alexander III.

It is curious that several years ago in Cannes, at the festival of Russian culture, held under the leadership of Nikita Mikhalkov, the audience applauded the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army named after. Alexandrova. Elderly French women stormed the stage to embrace the old guard of this group, its legendary singers.

Writer Vladimir Sorokin will come from Germany. His prose from the recently published collection will be performed by St. Petersburg actress Ksenia Rappoport. Not everyone knows that Sorokin is not only a writer, but also an artist and a book designer. He will present an unusual project – 15 portraits of Dostoevsky, created over three years. One of them shows Fyodor Mikhailovich in a casino in Wiesbaden. In an epileptic fit, he spills coffee on the tablecloth.
