There is currently a return period of 30 days for many items ordered from Amazon. The mail order company is now reducing the period.

Comprehensive change at Amazon: The US mail order company wants to shorten the return period for many of its items from 30 days to the legally required minimum of 14 days. The company announces this on its website.

From March 25th, the halved return period applies to the following product categories: Camera, Electronics, Office Supplies, Computers, Wireless, Video Games, Music and Video/DVD.

The long return period of 30 days still applies to Amazon devices such as Kindle readers, Echo speakers or Fire TV Sticks. The old deadline also remains for completely renewed products from Amazon’s Renewed category.

A company spokesman told “Spiegel” that the return policy and return date should continue to be “clearly marked under the product price.”

Transition period of four weeks

There should be a transition period of four weeks so that the mail order company’s customers can get used to the new return policy for items. Between March 25th and April 25th, a return can still be requested “via the online returns center with a return period of 30 days” – after that this will no longer be possible, says Amazon.

For products that are shipped directly from sellers via Amazon’s Marketplace program, the US company leaves it up to retailers to decide what return period they offer. “If you want to offer a returns policy longer than 14 days to provide customers with a better shopping experience, you can update your returns and refunds policies in Seller Central,” the company writes.
