While Barcelona prepares for the worst against a drought which has been going on for three years now, in the Port of Barcelona the french team Sailing America Cuphe Orient Express Racing Teamhas considered how to avoid the large expenditure of water required by daily cleaning of the boats that go out to train. In his case, he has found the solution in the installation of an innovative system of water reusethrough a collaboration with the third largest French water company and the first in Portugal, the Saur Group.
Saur will implement two solutions at the French team base that will allow reuse 60% of water, reducing its water footprint. On the one hand, it will treat gray water, coming from the rain and the recovery of water used in showers, for subsequent reuse for cisterns, again in showers and for washing boats, reducing more than half the consumption total water in the French base.
The second solution focuses on the bathroom wastewater treatment and kitchens using a bioreactor (BWTU), after which they will be discharged again with good quality.
Half a thousand people a day
The facility will serve the 115 personas who will work in the new French base that the team will open in spring, as well as the nearly 500 people who are expected to pass through it daily during the competition of the Sailing America Cup.
