Dr. Manish Hinduja, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Fardis Hospital said,

“Sudden or overexertion during exercise can trigger a heart attack. Don’t forget that people with pre-existing heart problems can have serious side effects when they overexert the body. Gym-goers sometimes over-exert themselves. As a result, many patients are affected to such an extent that they cannot find out what the heart problem is. It is associated with one’s stress level, smoking, unhealthy eating habits and the onset of diabetes.

Generally speaking,

Moderate exercise is good for the heart. But today’s young generation is also prone to heart problems due to undiagnosed artery blockages, heart rhythm problems, blockages in blood flow or valve problems. If you feel symptoms like heavy heart, dizziness, jaw pain or shoulder pain while working out in the gym, don’t ignore it. Track heart rate while exercising on the treadmill. It should not exceed 70 percent of your maximum heart rate (220 beats per minute). It is recommended to maintain heart rate at 140/mins,” he says.

  • Smoking, chewing tobacco, drug use and taking stimulants increase the risk of heart diseases.
  • Silent factors for heart diseases like diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol should be kept under constant surveillance in 40-50 years.
  • Excessive stress (work, competition, family and others) can lead directly to heart attack in addition to building bridges to diseases.
  • People who have recovered from the corona virus are 60 percent more likely to have a heart attack and 2.5 times more likely to have sudden cardiac arrest,” he warns.
