There are only a few days left before the start of the youth boxing championship, the opening ceremony of which will take place on November 28, at the Karen Demirchyan sports concert complex in Yerevan.
At today’s press conference, the President of the Boxing Federation of Armenia Arman Muradyan announced that the championship has officially started. The participants are still arriving in Yerevan, and the Azerbaijani delegation will also be here today.
“When Thailand refused to organize the World Youth Championship, we applied to AIBA and got the right to hold it in Armenia, which will help the development and popularization of the sport. This was a very important step for us.
The opening ceremony of the World Championship will take place on November 28, at 18:00. According to preliminary data, 70 countries were supposed to participate, but Congo and Zambia refused at the last moment. Currently, representatives of 55 countries are here, but 620 athletes from 68 countries will participate in the final.
The tournament’s budget is 320 million euros, and everything has been done so that the participants don’t need anything,” Muradyan said.
Speaking about the Azerbaijani national team, Arman Muradyan once again announced that all security guarantees have been given. Although it was previously announced that 10 participants from Azerbaijan would arrive in Yerevan, at the moment applications have been submitted in 6 weight categories.
However, the Azerbaijani mass media mention the names of 7 athletes who will participate in the Yerevan tournament. Tural Ahmedov – 52 kg, Nasreddin Mamedov – 56 kg, Pyarviz Bagirov – 64 kg, Sagi Salehli – 69 kg, Orhan Mailla – 75 kg, Rauf Rahimov – 81 kg, Rahil Mamedli – 91 kg.
“Azerbaijani athletes will live separately, and we will see them only in the ring,” Muradyan added.
The president of the boxing federation also informed that none of the Armenian referees will participate in the tournament. Suren Ghazaryan could have been awarded that honor, but the latter passed an exam in Anapa and for unknown reasons did not receive the appropriate qualification.
Regarding our national team, Muradyan mentioned that we have stable athletes, a good team and we simply have no right to perform poorly under our own roof.
“As far as we know, there are no Armenian participants in other teams. There are also no Azerbaijani athletes,” Muradyan said.
At the end, he also informed that the senior world championship will not be held in Armenia next year, but the federation will do everything to get the right to hold any major ranking tournament.
