England barely escaped defeat in the fourth Ashes Test against Australia. England set a target of 388 for victory and scored 270 for nine on the final day. Australian batsman Usman Khawaja was the man of the match, scoring a century in both the innings. Score: Australia 8–-416 Dec, 6-2-265 Dec, England 294, 9-2-270.

England lost the ninth wicket with two overs to spare. If the last wicket falls, Australia will win the series 4–0. However, Stuart Board (8 off 35 balls) and James Anderson (0 off 6 balls) hit an over by Nathan Lyon and Steve Smith to level the score.

England started the last day with 30 not out. Haseeb Hameed (nine) and David Malan (four) were out quickly. Openers Zack Crowley (77) and Ben Stokes (60) were the main contributors to Australia’s momentum. Johnny Bairstow (41) and Joe Root (24) battled it out. Jack Leach, who came in ninth, finished with 26 off 34 balls. Scott Bolland took three wickets for Australia. Pat Cummins and Lyon have two wickets each. Australia won the first three Tests and won the Ashes. The final test will be held in Hobart on the 14th.
