Attack from Iran on the US consulate in northern Iraq’s Erbil!

In the evening, several short-range ballistic missiles fired from Iran fell near US facilities – including a US military base next to the consulate.

This is also reported by the Iraqi news agency INA, which quotes Governor Omid Khoshnaw: “Several rockets fell on the city of Erbil.” According to the Kurdish security forces, Erbil was attacked with “twelve ballistic missiles”. The missiles are believed to be Fateh-110.

The attack was aimed at the US consulate. The missiles were fired east of “the Iraqi and Kurdish borders,” security forces added. Iraq borders Iran to the east.

People in Erbil panicked and didn’t want to go back to their homes for fear of a wave of attacks.

“We condemn this terrorist attack on different parts of Erbil and call on the residents to keep calm,” said Prime Minister Masrur Barzani of the Kurdish Autonomous Region.

Iran has in recent days threatened retaliation for the deaths of two Islamic Revolutionary Guard officers in a suspected Israeli airstrike in Syria last week.

Iran-backed militias reportedly targeted the Al-Tanf base, which houses US forces, in October in retaliation for a suspected Israeli air strike targeting Iranian-backed forces in Syria last year.
