Before the holidays, Paris Basketball will know where it really stands in the hierarchy of French basketball. The calendar reserves two duels in quick succession against the two juggernauts of the championship: Monaco and Villeurbanne. The very ambitious club from the capital has the claim to be the third thief in the short term and to join these two in the Euroleague. This could happen faster than expected: Paris dominates its Eurocup group (9 wins, 1 loss).

This is not anecdotal: the winner of this second European Cup will have a direct ticket to the next Euroleague, the “real” basketball Champions League. It is not at all impossible that Paris will get this ticket in the spring. Two months almost to the day (February 11) from its entry into the brand new Arena de la Porte de la Chapelle (the Adidas Arena), Paris Basketball, third in the provisional ranking and which has never yet participated in the playoffs, must first be located in Betclic. To find out if in the short term, it can compete with Monaco and Asvel.

For Monaco, we already know. This December 3, Paris took a beating on the rock (84-62), confirming that the Principality club is still largely (at least) two tones above. Too rich, too strong, he is untouchable.

All that remains is to measure themselves against Asvel, which is showing up this December 10 at the Halle Carpentier (7 p.m. on Skweek and the L’Équipe channel), currently second in the ranking.

Incidentally, this is the last time in the championship that the hall of the 13th arrondissement, on the edge of the ring road, will host a Betclic match. Paris will still play there for two months, but only in the Eurocup. In the championship, it’s a farewell to Carpentier: the next matches will be relocated, notably to the AccorArena in Bercy. “We are not yet saying goodbye to the Carpentier Hall,” says David Kahn, the president of Paris Basketball. We’re not saying “hello!” yet. » neither at the Adidas Arena. We nevertheless entered the final countdown before entering and I can feel the excitement building throughout the Paris Basketball community. »

Asvel not at the top

48 hours after a big defeat against Valencia in the Euroleague (55-78), Tony Parker’s club arrives in Paris tired, bruised. Not in top form but it remains Asvel, the club with the most titles in French basketball with real geniuses in its squad like Nando de Colo.

“For us, it is a special match at this precise moment of the season because it is second place in the ranking which is at stake. It is therefore an important meeting for the future”, specifies the Parisian Bandja Sy.

The Parisian winger, who played at Asvel in 2016-2017, adds: “It’s also special because it is, in fact, one of our last matches at Carpentier. We must maintain the good momentum of our victory in Lithuania.” Last Wednesday, Paris Basketball made short work of the Wolves (110-79) in a country where basketball is the national sport. That sums up Paris’s good start to the season.
