The President of the United States was asked what he thought about the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin. According to the Guardian, Joe Biden said the decision was legitimate and fair, as the Russian president clearly committed war crimes for which he must be held accountable.
Biden welcomed the decision even though the United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court and has not cooperated with it in the past, fearing that his own soldiers may also be targeted. In any case, this is the first time that a criminal court has issued an arrest warrant against one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Friday’s decision was also welcomed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that “this is a historic decision, from which historical responsibility begins.”
