BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member and Dhaka Metropolitan North Convener Amanullah Aman has been released on bail.

He was released from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital on Sunday (March 24) night.

BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter. He said that Amanullah Aman was released from the prison cell of BSMMU after 9 pm on Sunday.

On March 20, the Appellate Division granted bail to BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman, who was sentenced to 13 years in the case of illegal acquisition of wealth and concealment of information in asset declaration. However, the order said that if he wants to go abroad, he will have to take permission from the court.

BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman filed an appeal against the 13-year sentence in the corruption case on September 12 last year. He sought acquittal in the appeal. He also applied for bail.

BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman was sent to jail on September 10 last year in a corruption case.

On that day, Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-1 Judge Abul Kashem surrendered to the order of the High Court and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court denied bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Sabera Aman, wife of Aman Ullah Aman, surrendered to the same court on September 3 and asked for bail. The court denied bail and sent him to jail. On September 5, Chambers Justice M Inayetur Rahim granted bail till January 15 on the grounds that he was a cancer patient. He was later released from prison.

On March 6, 2007, the ACC filed a case against the Aman couple at the capital’s Kafrul police station on charges of concealment of asset information and acquisition of assets beyond known income. On June 21 of that year, a special judge sentenced Aman Ullah Aman to 13 years and his wife Sabera to three years in prison. Then they appealed to the High Court against that verdict. On August 16, 2010, the High Court acquitted them.

Later ACC appealed to the Appellate Division against the judgment of the High Court. The Appellate Division on May 26, 2014 quashed the judgment of the High Court and ordered a rehearing of the appeal.

On May 30 last year, the same bench of the High Court upheld the 13-year prison sentence of Aman and his wife Sabera Aman’s three-year sentence in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case.
