Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the sixteenth BRICS summit in the capital of the Russian Republic Kazan, with the participation of established and new members.

In his speech, Putin emphasized that “all our efforts are aimed at deepening cooperation between the BRICS countries on the political, security, economic and humanitarian levels.”

He expressed “strengthening financial cooperation between the BRICS countries and expanding the participation of the group in the future,” noting that there is “great interest in the group from the countries of the South, and more than 30 countries have expressed they want to cooperate with BRICS.”

He emphasized “maintaining the effectiveness and balance of the group at the same time,” pointing out that “today we are witnessing the dynamic development of BRICS and the strengthening of its international reputation.”

He said that BRICS has “great political, economic and humanitarian potential, as we seek to create a just, multipolar world,” explaining that “Moscow worked to implement the results of the previous summit in Johannesburg to improve financial cooperation among the Irish countries. the group.”

During the summit, the heads of delegations will discuss the most urgent aspects of the global agenda and exchange views on the issue of cooperation between the BRICS countries at the international level, including the resolution of some acute regional conflicts.

Another topic will also be addressed, namely the issue of increasing the number of participants in BRICS.

This year, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia joined Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa as full BRICS members. Currently more than 30 other countries are, in one way or another, showing interest in membership or association with BRICS.

President Putin will also continue a series of international bilateral contacts on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, and will hold meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

At the end of the extended meeting, the leaders are scheduled to adopt the Kazan Declaration – a comprehensive document summarizing the achievements of the forum, but also the achievements of the entire Russian presidency.
