The global K-pop sensation BTS is officially set to return on March 20, ending a nearly four-year period of inactivity as its members fulfilled mandatory military service obligations in South Korea. The declaration, made via a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by their entertainment company,BigHit Music, has ignited excitement among the group’s devoted fanbase.
A Hiatus Rooted in National Service
All seven members of BTS – RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Suga, Jung Kook, and j-hope – have completed their service requirements. Suga was the last to be discharged, concluding his duties as a social service agent in June 2025, a role he undertook due to a prior shoulder injury. The remaining six members served in the South Korean army.
This staggered enlistment strategy allowed each member the opportunity to pursue individual projects during the group’s break, maintaining a presence in the music industry while honoring their civic duties.
Looking Ahead: A New Album and World Tour
Last summer,BTS hinted at a forthcoming world tour and the release of a new album in the spring of 2026.According to a company release, the group began preparations for the project in July 2025. “Since it will be a group album, it will reflect each member’s thoughts and ideas,” the statement read. “We’re approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started.”
This upcoming release will be the group’s first full-length project as 2022’s anthology album, Proof, and follows their 2021 Japanese compilation, BTS, the Best, and their 2020 studio album, Be. The return of BTS signals a meaningful moment for the K-pop landscape and promises a fresh wave of music and performances for fans worldwide.
