The first Chinese-made passenger aircraft successfully completed a commercial flight. On May 28, a C919 aircraft operated by China Eastern Airlines left Shanghai for Beijing.
On board the aircraft, designed for 164 passengers, there were 130 people. During the flight, passengers proudly waved Chinese flags and sang patriotic songs. State broadcaster CCTV noted that the flight arrived in the Chinese capital 40 minutes ahead of schedule, highlighting the reliability and efficiency of the C919.
Created by Comac, the C919 could become a serious competitor for the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320. Its flight range reaches 5500 kilometers, which allows for medium-range flights.
Despite the fact that the aircraft is completely manufactured in China, it still depends on foreign supplies of components and technologies. For example, C919 engines and avionics are imported. The engines are supplied by a joint venture between the American corporation General Electric and the French company Safran.
