Chinese space debris threatens the ISS

by time news

A wreck of the Chinese meteorological satellite Fengyun-1C threatens the International Space Station. According to forecasts, next Friday, at about 03:56 Moscow time, a fragment of the device will fly dangerously close to the ISS.

Now Roskosmos is studying the possibility of evading the station from space debris. With the help of the engines of the Progress MS-18 truck, its height can be raised by 1.2 km to avoid a possible collision. Such a maneuver can be carried out today at about 23:00 Moscow time.

The Chinese meteorological satellite Fengyun-1C was shot down in 2007 as part of the PRC’s anti-satellite weapons test. Since then, its debris has been flying in orbit.
