Competition for media market: Dutch electronics retailer Coolblue attacks in Germany

by time news

Dhe leading Dutch electronics retailer Coolblue is planning extensive expansion in Germany. “We take on the German market city by city,” said Coolblue founder and boss Pieter Zwart WELT AM SONNTAG. At the moment, the focus is on North Rhine-Westphalia, but other regions could be added later. “We are intensively looking for suitable locations in North Rhine-Westphalia, typically with 1,000 square meters of retail space in good inner-city locations,” said Zwart, specifying the project.

The announcement is a declaration of war on competitors such as Mediamarkt / Saturn, Amazon or EP Electronic Partner. The Dutch company with 6,000 employees has recently grown strongly in the Benelux region and last year achieved a turnover of almost two billion euros.

Coolblue recently announced plans to open a first 2,600 square meter store in Düsseldorf. “The branch in Kö-Bogen is our calling card for Germany,” said the company boss. The online offer has been running for a few months. Coolblue wants to stand out from the competition primarily through extensive service, price leadership is not the top priority. “We certainly take part in sales promotions like Black Friday. But calling out a discount war every week is not typical for Coolblue, ”says Zwart.
