Complaints were raised that offering sarees were being sold without auctioning at the Bhatrakaliamman Temple in Tiruppuvanam-Madhapuram.

Many devotees donate silk sarees and pieces of silk to the Madhapuram Bhadrakaliamman Temple, which are auctioned every Friday in front of the devotees and credited to the temple account. Officials tied the unsold sarees into bundles and sold them to the traders. According to party officials from the area, they accused them of illegally selling sarees worth lakhs of rupees. After this, the sarees loaded in the truck were taken back to the temple hall. Officials said: Unsold waste sarees and pieces are usually sold in bulk. So we sold it to traders, and due to a problem, the temple was taken back to Kittanki, they said.
