BOLZANO. “Sustainable buildings require as few resources as possible and are powered by renewable energy. Furthermore, buildings, as durable goods, should cost little to run and be adaptable to future changes. Sustainability can be implemented right from the design phase and in the choice of building materials“. This was said by the general secretary of the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce, Alfred Aberer, introducing the work of the second appointment of the series of meetings on sustainability in construction. In the first meeting, held in July this year, they were suggestions and ideas discussed for greater sustainability in construction with an eye towards long-term solutions.

The second appointment, however, focused on sustainability in construction and the choice of building materials. Ingrid Pohl, manager of the Managing Partner company of P/O Consulting Srl in Munich, provided guidance on how to integrate sustainable choices right from the initial design phase. Furthermore, he illustrated the fundamental ideas during the development of the project and the design itself, also presenting the main approaches to sustainability in building renovation. The architect Roland Baldi showed examples of sustainable construction, illustrating various construction typologies, such as compact construction, underground construction or sloping construction. Stories of concrete experiences were also shared during the event. Roland Gabaschthe management of the company Naturalia-Bau Srl, provided a practical example of zero-emission buildings while Helga Salchegger of the “Laimburg” Experimentation Center explained the advantages of green spaces in planning.
