Kochi: The GST Council in the High Court has said that petroleum products cannot be included in the scope of GST. The Council is of the view that petroleum products are a major source of income and in this case detailed discussions and studies are required on bringing them under GST.
Kovid replies that there are practical difficulties in making a decision in this regard as the situation persists. However, the court was dissatisfied with the council’s response and directed it to give a detailed answer stating the reasons for its decision not to include petroleum products in the GST.
The High Court intervened in a petition seeking to bring petroleum products under GST. The case will be heard again in two weeks.
