(ANSA) – BARI, MARCH 21 – “Decaro doesn’t give anything… They are the ones who are giving a lot of money… All those from Bari Vecchia are going, because they are giving the money, do you understand?”. It is one of the sentences intercepted in the Internal Code investigation into the mafia political exchange vote in Bari which – according to what Repubblica on line reports – was said in a conversation between two members of the Parisi clan who contributed to the election of councilor Maria Carmen Lorusso among the centre-right lists in the 2019 administrative elections. Lorusso (who moved to the centre-left after the election) together with her husband Giacomo Olivieri, former regional councillor, is among the 130 arrested in the investigation into an alleged connection between the mafia, politics and business which is also at the origin of the Interior Ministry’s decision to appoint an access commission which will have to verify the possible presence of mafia infiltration in the Bari city council. The interception, contained in the thousands of pages of the investigation, concerns a conversation between Michele De Tullio, member of the Parisi clan, and Tommaso Lovreglio, nephew of the boss Savino Parisi. In the conversation intercepted on 19 February 2019 by the police – reports Repubblica – Lovreglio said to De Tullio: “Give him some votes to Di Rella”, referring to Pasquale Di Rella who won a few days after the centre-right primaries for the choice of the candidate who would challenged the outgoing mayor Antonio Decaro. “Decaro doesn’t give anything” – De Tullio would have said – “I don’t care… Decaro, Di Rella, they’re all a wretch… But he doesn’t lack money”. The investigation documents Lovreglio’s meetings with Giacomo Olivieri, and – Repubblica always reports – promises of money from the latter both in relation to the primaries and the elections of the municipal councillors. Then there is a photo that portrays Lovreglio who, on the night of February 24, 2019, went to a hotel in Bari, where the primaries had taken place, probably – investigators hypothesize – to collect the compensation for the votes that he had made available.
