The French Football Federation was the victim of personal data theft last week. According to our information, one or more hackers have thwarted the IT security systems of the authorities and got their hands on amateur football licenses.

It all started with a message sent on a forum by an anonymous hacker. This one claims to hold and want to sell information from several million licenses. Player’s name, first name, license number, postal address, email address, telephone number, etc.

Alerted a few days ago by its security service provider, the management of the FFF immediately notified the CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties). She does not yet know the scale of this attack and the mass of stolen content.

“The FFF learned on March 22 that potentially 1.5 million data from its licensees had been collected,” the prosecution told RTL. In a press release, the government agency Cybermalveillance specifies that: “this violation is likely to concern in particular identity data (surname, first name, gender, date and place of birth, nationality), legal representative for minors, postal address , email address, telephone number, license number and club. Only data relating to license requests for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons are likely to be affected. However, passwords, bank details, medical data and identity photographs are not affected. »

A priori, no sensitive information, such as bank details for example, would be affected. The IT breach would have already been closed. While waiting to learn more, it will send a press release in the coming hours to its licensees as well as to the representatives of the leagues and districts. A complaint has also been filed and a preliminary investigation has been opened at the Cybercrime Brigade (BL2C) of the Judicial Police Department of the Paris Police Prefecture.
