Recollection in the Hemicycle. The day after a tribute paid to Thomas in front of his high school in Romans-sur-Isère, the deputies will observe a minute of silence this Tuesday afternoon in the National Assembly. It was the conference of presidents of the Assembly which took note of this decision this morning. The minute of silence must be observed at 3 p.m., just before the traditional questions to the government.

A few days after the indictment, this Saturday of nine people, including three minors, for “murder by an organized gang”, “attempted murder” or “voluntary violence committed in a meeting”, Olivier Véran, government spokesperson and present during the tribute to the young boy who died stabbed during a ball in the village of Crépol (Drôme) on November 19, notably considered that this murder is “neither a news item, nor a brawl on the sidelines of a village ball, it is a tragedy which puts us at risk of a change in our society if we are not up to the task.”

The pressure of identity

For several days, in fact, calls for revenge have multiplied within identity circles. The demonstrations of force by the ultra-right in Romans-sur-Isère, Saturday evening and Sunday, resulted in “unacceptable violence”, with 24 arrests and 5 injured in the ranks of the police, said the Valence prosecutor. On Sunday, around forty identity activists gathered in the center of the city and were dispersed by the police, according to the prefecture which reported 7 arrests.

This Monday evening again, in Lyon, a gathering banned by the Rhône prefecture had to be dispersed by the police. The hundred or so people gathered chanted slogans like “French people wake up, you are at home here” and carried banners ensuring the support of “nationalist youth with Crépol”. According to videos published on social networks, notably on the Facebook page of the group “Les Remparts”, masked individuals also had a banner “immigration kills” and shouted “Islam outside Europe”. Since the events, the ultra-right has organized several violent rallies.
