The DFB gets a new supplier. From 2027, the national teams will no longer be equipped by long-standing partner Adidas.

For over seven decades, a logo was emblazoned on the jersey of the German national team: the world-famous symbol of sporting goods manufacturer Adidas, which manufactured jerseys and equipment for the DFB team and was one of the association’s largest sponsors. This will soon be over. The German Football Association announced a turning point on Thursday: from 2027, the German team will no longer wear the three stripes of the Herzogenaurach company.

From 2027, Nike will instead be the new supplier to the German national teams. The DFB surprisingly announced this in a press release. The agreement with the US manufacturer is valid until 2034.

“We look forward to working with Nike and the trust placed in us,” DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is quoted in the statement. And further: “The future partnership will enable the DFB to continue to carry out key tasks in the coming decade with a view to the comprehensive development of football in Germany.” Neuendorf also praised the previous partnership: “But one thing is also clear: until December 2026, we will do everything in our power to achieve mutual success with our long-standing and current partner Adidas, to whom German football has owed a lot for more than seven decades. “

“By far the best offer”

Two other DFB leaders, on the other hand, were more clear about the reasons for the change of supplier: “Nike made by far the best economic offer and also convinced with its content vision, which also includes a clear commitment to the promotion of amateur and popular sports as well as sustainable development of women’s football in Germany,” explained DFB treasurer Stephan Grunwald.

“With the 7.3 million people it represents, the DFB is a central social institution and has a unique selling point among sports associations: it supports its members financially and is not financed by them,” agrees DFB managing director Holger Blask . “This helps to maintain football as a popular sport and to be able to offer club memberships at comparatively low fees. We are grateful to be able to look forward to an economically stable future again as an association thanks to Nike’s commitment.”

This marks the end of a historic collaboration with Adidas – the Franconians were a permanent partner of the DFB for many decades, and numerous jerseys now have cult status.
