Dhaka Folk Fest is starting after four years!

‘Dhaka International Folk Fest‘ is the biggest folk music event of the subcontinent. In 2019, the fifth edition of this festival was held at the capital’s Army Stadium. After that, due to various reasons, this meeting of Sur did not take place.

Rumors are heard that this festival of folk songs is going to be held again after four long years. Several sources related to the organizer gave such a glimpse.

According to a source, Sun Foundation has already started discussions with various parties about Folk Fest. The artist selection process is also underway. Music festival is usually held in winter. From that idea, Folk Fest can start in the middle of November. As before, this year the festival will be held at the Army Stadium. But nothing is finalized yet.

An official of the Sun Foundation, who did not want to be named, said, ‘There is no information to be clarified at the moment. But discussions are going on to bring back the folk song festival again. The festival was very popular with people all over the country. Everyone wants to enjoy it. If everything goes well, there will be efforts to organize it with more grandeur than the previous years. There will be surprises in the artist list. Artists from different countries of the world will participate. If finalized, the details will be officially announced through a press conference.

Dhaka International Folk Fest was held for the first time in 2015. So far 500 folk music artists from 17 countries have participated in it. This festival was last held from 14-16 November 2019.

Shah Alam Sarkar, Shafiqul Islam, Malek Kawal, Fakir Shahabuddin, Kajal Dewan, Chandana Majumdar, Kamruzzaman Rabbi and many others performed music in the last event.

Among the foreign artists were – Sheveneburebi (Georgia), Hina Nasrullah (Pakistan), Habib Koite and Bamada (Mali), Sattuma (Russia), Junun (Pakistan).
