The 3rd and final ODI against West Indies was played at Queen’s Park yesterday. Having already won the first 2 matches of the series, India won the toss and declared to bat first in this ceremonial match.

After that, Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Subman Gill batted calmly and actively for the first wicket and set up a 113-run opening partnership for India and gave a very good start. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 58 (74) with 7 fours in which the rain interrupted for an hour and when the match resumed, it poured again for an hour. So when this match which was reduced to 40 overs resumed, Gill – Shreyas Iyer for the 2nd wicket made a partnership of 86 runs and strengthened India further. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 44 (34) runs and Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 8 (6) runs. So when India scored 225/3 in 36 overs, the rain came back until the end of the innings.

So Subman Gill, who had scored 98* (98) with 7 fours and 2 sixes, missed out on a chance to score a century as India’s innings was declared over. Hayden Walls took maximum 2 wickets for West Indies.

After that, West Indies played with a target of victory if they scored 252 runs in 35 overs according to Doug Worth Lewis method. The West Indies team was all out for 137 runs in 26 overs, unable to attack India’s bowling. Sahal took the maximum 4 wickets for India.

With this, India whitewashed 3-0. Gill bagged the Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards. Earlier in this series, in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India fielded with young players led by Shikhar Dhawan and has achieved success in all the matches.

Moreover, for the first time in the history of ODI cricket, India has won the trophy with a new record by registering a whitewash victory over West Indies on their home soil. And through this, Shikhar Dhawan has created a new record of being the first Indian captain to record a whitewash victory on West Indies soil in ODI cricket.
