In the last few hours, videos showing an alleged fall of the Angel of Independence flooded social networks, causing panic among the inhabitants of the Mexico City.
Users shared the images believing that the monument had been seriously damaged. The posts caused confusion as they showed a fallen golden structure in the vicinity of the famous monument.

The chaos grew rapidly, leading more people to believe in the supposed collapse. However, the official media did not report any damage to the monument, which increased doubts about the veracity of the rumors.
Has the angel of independence really fallen?
The confusion originated from the recording of a movie. The authorities clarified that the fallen structure was part of the scenery for the filming of the feature film “The Man in the Crowd.”
The production installed a golden replica to simulate a scene in which a statue collapsed, causing passersby and social media users to misinterpret the situation.
The area where filming took place was fenced off for security reasons, but rumors spread before authorities could issue a formal clarification.
