  • The main difference is in the costs and services of both products.
  • There are conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer or heart disease that require treatments that exceed 340,000 pesos of average annual expenditure.
  • A digital health membership is a novel option to access private services in an easy and accessible way.

Prevention is the basis for reducing the probability of suffering a wide range of diseases and conditions. Although the reality is that we are all exposed and that is why it is worth knowing all the options that exist in case of requiring medical attention. Among the most recently created alternatives is the digital health membership, but do you really know what it is?

Medical services are essential to maintain a good state of health; however, they can sometimes be difficult to afford. According to the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF), some diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer or heart conditions require treatments that exceed 340,000 pesos of average annual spending.

Figures like the one mentioned above are unaffordable for more than 28% of the country’s population who have difficulties accessing quality health services. Similarly, not everyone has social security, which implies thinking about other medical care options.

Medical care at affordable prices

In terms of private health, in addition to insurance for major medical expenses, there are other products such as digital health membership. Thanks to technology and its costs, it is positioning itself as a viable alternative to access health services at affordable prices.

“Both products aim to help mitigate the costs of any disease or illness. The important thing before contracting them is to know in detail the coverage, services and costs that must be covered to be entitled to them”, explains Jean-Louis Brunet, CEO and Founder of Mutuus.

According to the company, there are substantial differences in costs and services between its digital health membership and the traditional major medical insurance that every person or organization should know before hiring them.

What is a digital health membership?

A digital health membership focuses on satisfying practically all the health needs that a person or family requires. However, for some services, membership offers discounts that allow the user to save on expenses that they already pay out of pocket.

However, the highlight of this membership is that it fully covers services such as the entire hospital bill and hospital medical fees, with no deductible or coinsurance.

This membership is designed to cover the most costly event of an illness or accident: the hospital, thus protecting the assets of those who hire it and saving them money on all the other health services they need.

In terms of costs, insurers offer products for individual major medical expenses, whose annual amounts exceed an average of 25,000 pesos per person depending on the deductible and coinsurance, a figure that can only be covered by people with high incomes or who work in large companies. , which does not apply to the majority of the population, since in Mexico 70% of employment is generated by SMEs.

On the other hand, the digital health membership has a lower cost and has insured amounts that the client can choose and that are renewed every year, in such a way that it is practically unlimited. In addition, there is no deductible or coinsurance.

  • Usability: The usability of the product is another big difference. While usability is low in insurance for major medical expenses, digital health membership has high usability, since through it users can access telemedicine services that represent 90% of medical consultations, in addition to discounts in pharmacies and laboratories.
  • Services: Not all illnesses are serious or require hospitalization; There are simple and common conditions that must be treated in a timely manner to inhibit their development and complications in the short or medium term. The health membership helps to prevent and control events without the need to leave home and generate extra spending.

In this sense, there are diseases that the medical expenses insurance does not cover until the deductible is exceeded, therefore it is not possible to request a reimbursement for expenses related to preventive medical consultations, tests, medications, among other minor services.
