The debut film “Palma” by Alexander Domogarov Jr., the son of the famous actor Alexander Domogarov, won the Grand Prix at the festival “Vivat Cinema of Russia!” in St. Petersburg. The story of a dog that was waiting for its owner at the airport touched the hearts of the public. One grandmother stood near the boxes for spectator voting and did not allow the questionnaires with the words “against” to be dropped. The jury, led by a prominent official Vyacheslav Telnov, rather made a pragmatic choice in favor of influential producers. Actually, this is what our film industry is based on.
Young Domogarov did not expect such a triumph and reacted directly: “We made a film for the audience and won the festival. Stunned! ” His film exists in two versions – Russian and Japanese, where the director’s father appears on the screen. The hero of the elder Domogarov goes to the Land of the Rising Sun to buy a dog of the Akita breed. As the director explained to “MK”, the Japanese producers insisted on this, due to which the length of the film noticeably increased. Thus, the Japanese decided to support the breed and hold the dog owners to account, who are increasingly left to their own devices. But Russian viewers will not see Domogarov Sr., although many counted on the appearance of Russian Richard Gere, and that everything would be like in the American-British film “Hachiko”.
The jury awarded acting awards to Vladimir Meisinger for the role of a policeman in “The Man from Podolsk” and Olga Lerman, who played skier Elena Vyalbe in “White Snow” by Nikolai Khomerika. As a native of Baku, she first got on skis. She spent three months preparing for filming, but her acting and human talent brought her victory. Actor Semyon Serzin, who made his film debut as a director in The Man from Podolsk, was recognized as the best in his nomination. He will shoot the next film in his native Petersburg, although recently he has been living in Moscow.
The press prize went to cinema about cinema – “The End of the Film” by Vladimir Kott. If you want to know everything about modern filmmaking, then watch this film, and also a picture from Krasnoyarsk “Towards a Dream” by Irina Gobozashvili about teenagers fleeing from their parents to Norway. Titles will tell more than any speeches about the extreme conditions under which cinema is being created today. The largest industrial company indicated there, as it turned out, did not allocate a dime. The authors of the film thank the people who transferred money to one of the platforms, although they did not collect the required amount and all efforts were in vain. Now all that remains is to thank the kind people for the cabbage pies, who helped out the cameramen on the set. And everyone involved in “The End of the Film” worked for free in order to speak out about what was boiling. The main character is a director filming a series in a snowy field. He wonders who he really is, whether he is a director at all. While filming the series, he still dreams of leaving a mark in art, of going to the Cannes Film Festival. A successful classmate advises him to shoot something patriotic, about Crimea or hockey. Our omnipotent producers did not see this very personal and ironic statement of Vladimir Kott, and the picture turned out to be of no use to anyone.
Cameraman Sergei Astakhov, who worked with Alexei Balabanov on the films “About Freaks and People”, “Brother” and “Brother 2”, “War”, “It Doesn’t Hurt Me”, filming “In love of my own free will” by Sergei Mikaelyan, “Metro” by Anton Megerdichev, “Salyut-7” by Klim Shipenko, were awarded “For spirituality in the art of cinema.” Several years ago, he discovered on his plot of land in the Leningrad region near the Sinyavinsky swamps, where there were battles, mines and the remains of 15 soldiers that had been lying in the ground for 70 years. Even then I decided to put a chapel there. Since then, I have done a great job, I have not applied to government agencies. I did everything myself. As Sergey Astakhov told MK, in this way he tried to fight against pseudo-patriotism. On June 22, a chapel will be opened on its site, where filmmakers are invited to honor the memory of those killed in the war. Having done a lot in the cinema, Astakhov is not spoiled by awards. “I still hope to receive the title of Honored Worker of Culture. I always work honestly. I’m a fan, ”he said.
Of the 30 TV series put up for audience voting (Vampires of the Middle Band, Dead Souls, Dyatlov Pass, Flight, Topi, mainly platform products), the television series The Theory of Probability by Yuri Moroz won. The film also has a tragic fate. “For three years, the script of Alena Zvontsova lay with the producer Igor Tolstunov. Then the film lay for six years. It’s like a child was born, grew up, and everything that you have done promising is out of date. The fact that the viewer has chosen our film gives it a second life, ”said Yuri Moroz. What remained behind the scenes was that the two federal channels worked in opposition to each other. One of them marinated the film for several years, until competitors took it to show it in parallel with Yuri Moroz’s “Gloomy River”. So the long-suffering director had to compete with himself on different channels. At the festival, Maxim Matveyev, who played in The Theory of Probability, was noted as the best actor in the national TV series. Yuri Moroz had to go on stage three times. And also for the award of the wife of Victoria Isakova, who won according to the results of the audience vote as the best actress of a domestic series. And she played in Anna Melikyan’s Tenderness, where she made her debut as a producer. Filmed in St. Petersburg, first a small film, and then the idea of a series arose, which, as it turned out, was happily implemented.
