Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Tajul Islam said that the overall economic future of Bangladesh is related to the development of Char. Therefore, if the communication system of Char area is improved, it will play a role in the country’s economy including agriculture.

He said that the number of citizens living in 8 thousand 315 square meters of grassland in Bangladesh is more than 8 million. Food security of Bangladesh can be ensured to a large extent if various crops and livestock are brought under modern technology in this vast land of silt-accumulated pasture. The main land of the country has no more opportunity to grow but our land in the grazing area is increasing day by day. Therefore, we have to take various steps to improve the quality of life in the grazing areas and to ensure the fair price of the products produced by the farmers there.

The Local Government Minister said this while addressing a seminar titled ‘Sustainable Infrastructure in Char Area: Current Perspective, Obstacles and Ways of Transition’ at an elite hotel in the capital on Wednesday (March 13).

Md. Tajul Islam said that the primary impact of adverse climate impacts comes first on grasslands, so there is a need for more research in the construction of infrastructure in grasslands. Appropriate fodder infrastructure should be established through proper survey and research.

At this time, the minister emphasized on strengthening the proper marketing system for various agricultural products produced in Char. Mentioning that there is a huge demand for organic vegetables in the country and abroad, he said, we have to utilize the potential of growing different types of organic vegetables and crops in pastures.

State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives. Abdul Wadud said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, our country has reached a new horizon of development today. In particular, various initiatives and projects of our government for the development of Char region are contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of Char people. All these developmental activities will play an important role in making Bangladesh a developed country.

The state minister said that market linkage should be established by building communication infrastructure in order to ensure fair price of fodder crops. In this context, your opinion in today’s seminar will play an effective role in formulating future plans.
