Berlin You know that. You stand in the building with strangers or unwelcome colleagues and wait for the elevator to come. What do you do now? Start a small talk? Oh god, don’t talk about the weather again! It can get even more uncomfortable when the lift finally comes and you are standing close together in the cabin. You can’t check your cell phone – no reception. So look down, silence.

These elevator situations, possibly accompanied by pipe music, should actually be a thing of the past. At least when it comes to the leading manufacturers such as Otis, Kone or the market leader in Germany: Schindler, the Swiss family company with its German headquarters in Berlin-Mariendorf. Digitization was discovered there a few years ago and artificial intelligence (AI) and thus the “elevator of the future” were designed.
