Gaza Strip – A series of fires erupted today in the Gaza Strip, suspected to have been caused by the explosion of incendiary balloons. This incident comes as tensions continue to mount on the Gaza border. In addition, there have been three shooting attacks, with two of them targeting IDF forces and the third aimed at the settlement of Hinanit in Samaria.
One of the shooting attacks was reported near the village of Shavika in the Menashe Brigade area, where terrorists targeted a military position. Shortly after, another attack took place near the settlement of Avni Hefetz, where an IDF patrol came under fire near a water well. Thankfully, no casualties or damages were reported in either incident. Pursuit operations to apprehend the shooters are currently underway.
A third shooting attack occurred in the settlement of Hinanit, causing damage to a house but resulting in no casualties. IDF forces have initiated a pursuit of the perpetrators. Back in Gaza, incendiary balloons have also caused a fire in the town of Otaf.
In the midst of these security threats, the IDF and the Shin Bet succeeded in arresting eight wanted individuals who were planning an imminent attack at Bir Zeit University, located between Saturday and Sunday. The operation targeted the Hamas cells known as “Haktala Islamiya” that are operating within university campuses in the IOS region. It was found that these operatives had been recruited by Hamas operatives from the Gaza Strip. Incendiary materials, Hamas flags, weapons, and ammunition were recovered during the operation.
Furthermore, four more individuals were apprehended in the village of Khirbat Karma, bringing the total number of arrests to twelve. The captured individuals and the confiscated evidence are currently under investigation by the Shin Bet.
The escalating security threats and the cooperation between Gaza-based terrorist organizations raise concerns of further violence and hostilities in the region.
