The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved 14 purchase proposals including construction of a multi-storey mosque in Azimpur of the capital, 8 thousand metric tons of lentils for sale at subsidized prices to low-income people with TCB cards. The total cost will be 3434 crore 1 lakh 79 thousand 45 taka.

The proposals were approved in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement chaired by Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali on Wednesday (March 20). Committee members, senior secretaries of the cabinet department, secretaries and officials of the relevant ministries were present in the meeting. At the end of the meeting, the Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division highlighted various aspects of the approved proposals.

He said, the purchase committee has approved a proposal for the purchase of 8 thousand metric tons of lentils through international direct purchase method for TCB. The firm submitted a bid to the Chennai-based Agrigo Trading Private Limited for procurement of 8,000 metric tonnes of lentils through international direct procurement. Tested by TEC and found to be responsive. At the end of all the bidding processes, the committee has approved the purchase of 8 thousand metric tons of lentils from the company recommended by TEC through direct purchase method at 76 crore 64 lakh 80 thousand taka. The price of lentil per kg is Tk 100.80. The government’s lentil procurement target for the fiscal year 2023-2024 is 288,000 metric tons. 1 lakh 52 thousand 500 metric tons have been purchased so far.

Besides, a proposal to buy 10 thousand metric tons of sugar for sale at subsidized price through TCB has been approved. Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation will supply this sugar. 160 crore rupees will be spent on purchasing 10 thousand metric tons of sugar at 160 rupees per kg.

In the meeting, the committee approved the proposal of ‘Construction of 1 6-storey mosque’ under construction of multi-storied residential buildings for government officials and employees (Zone-A) inside Azimpur Government Colony in Dhaka. The project will be implemented jointly by M/s Contemporary and Sams Engineering. It will cost 12 crore 34 lakh 2 thousand 361 taka.
