Fact check in the video: Russian tank column destroyed with Javelin missiles

by time news

Watch the video: Russian tank column destroyed with Javelin missiles – that’s behind the clip.

This video, allegedly from Ukraine, is spreading on social networks.

The clip is intended to show a column of Russian tanks being fired upon and destroyed by US Javelin anti-tank missiles.

One uploader writes: “You have to see it to believe it!”

But the video is fake.

The video is not about real combat operations – but a clip from the computer military simulation “Arma III”.

The scene can be found on YouTube in higher quality, marked as a video game clip.

The uploader writes: “This video was created with Arma, it does not show reality, it is only a simulation of real events.”

The deterioration in the video quality is apparently intended to hide the fact that the images on social media are not authentic images of the Ukraine war.

A spokesman for the video game developer “Bohemia Interactive” also confirmed to the Reuters news agency that it was a clip from the software company’s game.

The case shows how easily videos can be used for false reports due to the deterioration in image quality.

A video game clip becomes a supposedly real scene from the Ukraine war.

How do we check videos for manipulation in the editorial office? It is important to look at the details. The individual frames of a video often reveal whether a video has been edited. We take a close look at each image and enlarge individual sections. Indications of a fake are, for example: lack of motion blur, unnatural shadows or editing errors. The general rule at stern is: Seriousness before speed. We always double-check facts and material thoroughly before publishing them. For this we work with the cross-editorial “Team Verification” together with RTL, NTV, RTL2, Radio NRW.
